Who Will You Help?

Our Nation… Maryland… Annapolis… Communities…  Schools… Families… Children

IYN’s Summer Explosion day camps are available to all boys and girls in and around the Annapolis, Maryland area entering grades 5-7.  IYN will address problems Annapolis currently faces with our youth entering middle school.

We provide educational and mentoring services to our youth enabling them to make decisions that will allow students, schools, and our communities to benefit.  Academically, nearly 50% of our nation’s African American population, 40% of our Latino population, and 11% of our white population attend high schools in which graduation is not the norm (Sammon, 2007).  Morally, it appears more and more children are losing a conviction to do what is “right” in their personal lives, communities, and at school.  Crimes cause by youth continues to be a concern in the Annapolis community.  IYN can only see a greater need to provide our youth with a solid foundation based on strong moral values that will assist them in making appropriate choices when confronted with social values and beliefs.  Fitness wise, in 1999, 14% of adolescents, ages 12 to 19 in the United States were overweight.  This has nearly tripled for adolescents in the past 2 decades (www.surgeongeneral.gov).

IYN Services, Inc. has a close partnership with one of the local school systems in Anne Arundel County:  Mills-Parole Elementary.  Mills-Parole is a Title I funded school in the city of Annapolis.  Annually, IYN Services works with approximately 50% of Mills Parole’s fifth grade students teaching and mentoring them, either through our after school boys mentoring program (Leaders of Tomorrow) or our Summer Explosion Day Camps.  As many educators know, the most crucial times children need guidance academically, socially, and morally, are through their years entering middle school.  For this reason, IYN has initiated its “Leaders of Tomorrow” boys mentoring program to strategically work with fifth grade boys in developing their academics, morals and values, and self control.

Likewise, the Summer Explosion Day Camp develops both boys and girls entering grades 5-7 in attempts to continually provide guidance and encouragement in the areas of academics, morals, and physical fitness.  The majority of students IYN Services, Inc. works with are students who have extraordinary potential for greatness, both in and outside of school.  Many children, however, have to first make it through challenges some students never have to worry about:  receiving free or reduced school meals, being raised by one parent, or in some cases, solely extended family members.

How will the Community Benefit?

The youth will benefit by getting the support and guidance they need both academically and morally to be successful during their middle school years (a time where the most drastic decline in behavior and academics are noticed).

Ideally, over time this will directly benefit school systems by providing a decrease in behavioral issues and an increase in academic performance.

Strengthening the ethics and morals of our youth will eventually benefit our families (lessen teen pregnancies, students attaining better jobs to support families, lessen issues with confrontation between children and parental figures (i.e. better respect for authority)).

Likewise, children with a healthy self -image and respect for themselves and others are more likely to go to college, get steady jobs, contribute to the community; and less likely to do drugs and participate in criminal activity.  This will naturally bring a benefit to our Annapolis communities.

How Can You Help?

There are many ways you can become an active component to the advancement of IYN Services’ vision to its community, youth, and those in need.  Choose which way or ways you would like to contribute to the cause:

Ø   Donations -Donations allow IYN Services

the flexibility to meet the needs of its programs in the most effective way.  Unlike the larger non-profit organizations, IYN Services does not have large “backers” to make its vision a reality.  It relies on the heart

and involvement of “everyday”

individuals and small

businesses that want to make a

difference in the future of our country, starting with our children; our future leaders

for tomorrow.  No gift is too

small, and no gift is too large.  In a new and upcoming organization, IYN Services truly will benefit from whatever you are able to give.
